I saw something interesting on TV during the Chinese New Year holidays. There was a rerun

of a 1999 movie with a rare theme: ham radio. The title of the movie is "Frequency".

今年春節假期我在電視上看到有趣的節目。有一部重播的1999 年電影，主題很罕見：

火腿族無線電。電影片名叫 《黑洞頻率》。

I’m interested. It has a rather complicated plot that is not often seen in Hollywood movies.

Frank Sullivan is a fireman in New York City. His hobbies are listening to ham radio and

watching baseball games. His son John shares his passion and they plan to watch some of

the 1969 World Series games together. Unfortunately, Frank dies in a warehouse fire just

hours after the first game ends.

我很有興趣。因為它有好萊塢電影少見的複雜情節。法蘭克是紐約市消防隊員，他的

嗜好是聽火腿族無線電與看棒球比賽。他的兒子約翰也有相同的愛好，兩人打算一起

看1969 年世界大賽的比賽。不幸地，法蘭克就在第一戰結束幾小時後，於一場倉庫

Now comes the intriguing part. Thirty years later, in 1999, John, now a New York policeman,

finds his father’s ham radio in the storage room. He turns on the machine and receives

signals from a stranger. He soon realizes that he is talking to his father who is sitting at the

same table, using the same machine on the same day 30 years ago.

有趣的部分才剛要開始。三十年後的1999 年，約翰成了紐約市警察，他在儲藏室找

到他爸爸的無線電。他把機器打開，收到一個陌生人的訊號。他很快了解到他是在跟

他爸爸說話，而他爸正在三十年前的同一天，坐在同一張桌子前，用同一台機器跟他

說話。

According to the movie, it is the strange light in the sky that does the trick. John tells his

father the result of the first World Series game and that he’s going to die the next day in a

warehouse fire. John also tells Frank how to avoid his deadly fate. At first Frank doesn’t

believe John, but he is surprised that the game result is just like what John predicted, and

he is called to put out a fire in the same warehouse John mentioned. He does what John

has advised him and escapes death.

根據電影的說法，是天空奇怪的光線搞的鬼。約翰告訴他爸爸世界大賽第一場的結

果，以及他將在第二天死於倉庫火警的事情。約翰也告訴法蘭克如何避免他的死亡命

運。起初法蘭克他不相信，但他訝異於約翰預測球賽結局之準確，而他又被叫去約翰

所說的同一個倉庫救火。他根據約翰的告誡去做了，然後就逃過了死劫。

John’s life is going to change because Frank doesn’t die in the fire. Exactly~ Frank lives for

20 years more before he dies of lung cancer. John gradually accepts a new memory in which

his father didn’t die in a fire. They have even solved a decades-old murder case together

through their miraculous cross-time ham radio conversations!

約翰的人生將要改變了，因為法蘭克沒有死於火場。一點沒錯~~法蘭克又多活了二十

年，最後死於肺癌。約翰逐漸接受了父親未死於火災的新記憶。他們甚至透過跨時空

的神奇無線電交談，聯手破了一個數十年未破的謀殺案！
